Friday Night High-Lights

Homecoming Hits Hard

On Friday September 30, the football team played a tough game against the BOLD Warriors. Despite the score, with Maple Lake falling 6-26, the boys look to the bright side.

“The most fun part of the game was when our defense stopped BOLD 3 and out,” said senior Matthew Aasen “We ended up stopping them multiple times.” Bold is 5-0 this season, so the boys stopping them is an accomplishment itself.

“Towards the end of the game, we ran an outside play to me and I ran the boundary for a 40 yard gain,” said Aasen. But, Aasen was not the only one making plays.

Senior Jarret Faue threw the team’s only touchdown pass in the fourth quarter of the game. “It felt good to finally have what we practiced come into play,” said junior Logan Salmela, the catcher of Faue’s pass. Faue is the second string quarterback for Maple Lake, who had to fill in for junior Luke Goelz because of a wrist injury.

“We continue to get better as a team and improve every game,” said coach Zack Cargill. The football team practices everyday after school for three hours, “It takes a lot of determination to do what they do,” said Cargill. The coaches are always installing new plays for the team so that they can defeat their opponents.

The boys will travel to Long Prairie on Friday, October 7. “We are looking forward to the game and hopefully a win, “ said senior Riley Hall. “We have been working hard this week and it is sure to pay off.”
