The home of the Irish celebrate St. Patrick’s day with fun filled activities. In the morning, runners took part in the Irish Scamper then the community stood around town and watched the annual parade and to finish the night, royalty was crowned.
Starting the day with a jog, students and the community participated in the Irish Scamper run. “I like to participate in the race because I think it’s a good way to push myself and see where I am before track season,” said senior Nick Lind. Lind has run the race since he was 10 years old. Last year and the year before Lind was the Scamper champion.
Following the Scamper, the St. Patrick’s day parade pushed through the cold. “I got to sit in the fire truck and throw candy for the fire department, so I wasn’t too cold,” said seventh grader Ethan Helmbrecht. Although the winds were strong, there was a big turnout for the parade.
To finish the day of celebration, the coronation of the Maple Lake royalty took place in the auditorium. Juniors Dayzie Floding and Makenzie Gunderson were the runners for Miss Maple Lake. After going through many steps, judges crowned Floding as Miss Maple Lake and Gunderson as a Maple Lake Princess. “Being Maple Lake royalty means representing the community in a positive way and going out and helping the community,” said Gunderson. Maple Lake royalty has been around for many years and has continued to be a part of Maple Lake history ever since.
Although the leprechaun wasn’t caught this year, the town sham-rocked the activities that made for a grand ol’ time.
