The ANML wrestling team has had a successful season so far, recently winning the conference champion title. This accomplishment was made possible through hard work and dedication, as well as support from the team. Senior Cole LaFave enjoys watching and cheering on his teammates during their matches. “My favorite moment from the HLWW tournament was when Alex pinned his opponent in the third quarter to place fifth in the tournament,” said LaFave. LaFave is one of four seniors from Maple Lake on the ANML wrestling team.
Although it is the last wrestling season for many, for some it is also their first. Sophomore Brayden Fobbe joined the wrestling team for the first time this year. “I joined wrestling because it is good for you,” said Fobbe. Fobbe also enjoyed the HLWW tournament because it was the best he had wrestled all season.
Wrestling is unique in the sense that it allows participants to have a solo score, as well as a team score. This allows wrestlers to set personal goals, as well as goals they have for the team as a whole. “My personal goals for the season are to improve my technique and end the season with a winning record. A goal I have for the team is to make it to state,” said junior Carter Courtright.
