Basketballers are Back on the Court
Hoping for Nothing but Net
Dr. James Naismith created basketball in 1891 with the idea in mind that he wanted his college students to have an activity to do inside during the long New England winters. Since then the game has evolved to a faster pace sport, but it still remains an activity to do inside during the long winter months.
Having something to do indoors during the winter is just one aspect of basketball, but there are multiple reasons people like to play. For Avery Lee it is, “How aggressive everyone can get because they want to win,” she said in regard to why she chooses to play.
Playing basketball can be time consuming but according to sophomore Molly Wurm, “It’s fun and keeps me busy and active.” Being active includes many practices and multiple games each week. The girls basketball team has played seven games and won two of the seven, but it’s still early on in the season.
The team has some senior leadership on it this year. Senior Gwen Geyen said, “Being the oldest you have to step up more.” Along with Geyen, seniors Audrey Beffel, Kayla Paumen and Sydney Staloch round out the senior roster.
With the senior leadership and dedication of all the players, the girls hope to continue to make their shots and experience nothing but net.
