All Out, All Game, All Season
No season at all, in the Spring, back in the Fall, canceled. With a season unlike any other, the football team was up for any challenge. Even having the entire program out for two weeks. “Quarantine made it difficult to get the practice that we needed for the games afterwards,” said Sophomore Riley Hall. However, the Irish definitely didn’t show it. They finished with two wins, after the pause, against the Howard Lake Waverly Winsted Lakers and the Concordia Academy Beacons.
The season being cut short was a big surprise, but senior Adam Neumann said, “The last game couldn’t have gone any better! It was the best game all season and a great one to end my career on.” He had told himself to have fun and go all out every play. The boys had put the work in throughout the whole season and prepared every practice like it was their last.
Having this past start of the season pushed back, there will be less time than usual to prepare for the 2021 fall. Junior Ernesto Brown said, “I am going to prepare by working hard in the weight room, as well as conditioning a lot during social distancing.” The future looks bright for the Maple Lake Irish with many leaders in the upcoming senior class.
This season may have looked much different than the rest, but the Maple Lake Football team took each adversary as a test and pushed through. They came together in the toughest times and will continue to remember this fall as a challenge they overcame.
