Girls Crush the Cross Country Season

Running out of the 2018 Cross Country season, Maple Lake High School girls definitely went uphill this year. “I think the girls ran best in Delano this year because although it was a tough course with many hills, we all attacked it and gave it our best,” said Senior Ava Mergen. At that meet, Maple Lake won the meet and almost got a perfect score because all seven members of the varsity team placed in the top twenty.

Mergen’s best meet was at Litchfield where her time was 20:27. To that point, Junior Keiara Anderson said, “The season went really well, I think the best meet was at Litchfield because a lot of people got their best times there.”

To finish the season with a flourish, three varsity cross country runners are headed to state. Two of them being from the girls’ team, Sophomore Augustus Demarais and Freshman Sophia Pribyl. Section runner, Freshman Eva McClelland said, “We took third in sections overall and we all ran really good races.” The girls ran great in this year’s season, especially at Delano and Litchfield. Now two of their members are off to state!
