The Maple Lake Track team kicked off their season with two indoor meets and time trials in Rockford. The team has high sights this year after a successful season last year, but hopes to make gains and improve from where the team left off. “I really hope to return to the True Team State Meet,” said Head Coach Ben Youngs. The team finished second in the True Team section meet last year and fell just short of first.

Individual athletes also have some impressive goals. “I hope to not only go back to the [individual] state meet, but to also place in the top three hurdles,” said Senior Aaron Reese. Aaron has always been a top athlete for the team and hopes to make this season the best ever. He already set a new school record for the 300m hurdles at the Rockford time trials.

Success comes from all ages on the Maple Lake Track team. The recent meets have allowed for some freshman to test their abilities. Freshman Anthony Demaris ran the 55m dash at the indoor meets to see how he stacked up. “It was  really nerve wracking but at the same time super fun,” said Demaris. Anthony and other freshman thrived in their first competitions on this level.

The Irish have some high goals this season and with a great blend of young and veteran runners, they hope to reach that goal. With hard work and great leadership, the team knows this is a very achievable goal.
